# Recurring invoices

> Let monthly fees and scheduled invoices create their drafts on time.

Under **Billing → Recurring** you define invoices that repeat, for example a monthly hosting fee or a retainer, and one-off invoices scheduled for a date.

## Create a definition

1. Click **New recurring invoice**.
2. Choose the client and, if the invoice belongs to a project, the project.
3. Enter the lines as a template: description, quantity, unit price, VAT rate.
4. Set the **Schedule**: **Weekly**, **Monthly**, **Quarterly**, **Yearly** or **One-off** with a **Scheduled date**. For monthly runs, choose the **Billing day**: the start date's day or the last day of each month.
5. Save. The definition shows its **Next run**.

## What happens on the run

On the scheduled day, a draft invoice is created from the template. It appears under Invoices like any draft, for you to check and finalize.

**Finalize generated invoices automatically** skips the check and finalizes on the run. Use it only where nothing changes from month to month. For projects billed from rate cards or per person it is not available.

## Pause, skip, end

Open the definition to **Deactivate** it, to skip the next period or to end the series. Invoices already created are not affected.
