# Custom entities

> Track the things your firm tracks that no standard tool knows, as record types of your own.

Domains, maintenance contracts, equipment, site visits: under **Settings → Custom entities** you define record types of your own, without code.

## Define a type

1. Click **New entity type**.
2. Enter the **Singular name** and **Plural name**, for example "Site visit" and "Site visits".
3. Choose whether records are **Standalone**, or whether **Each record belongs to a contact** or **to a project**.
4. **Add field** for each field: text, number, money, date, checkbox, single or multiple choice, link, email, phone, a member, or a reference to another record or contact. Mark fields as **required** or **filterable**.
5. Switch on **comments**, **attachments** and, if you want, **AI briefings** for the type.
6. **Create entity**.

## What you get

- The type appears in the navigation with its own list and detail pages, with validation.
- Records can be created from a public form, see [Public forms](/help/deals-and-contacts/public-forms/).
- A document template can be bound to the type, see [Document templates](/help/documents/templates/).
- Connected assistants and the API get the type's tools automatically.

## Custom fields on built-in records

Contacts, projects and tasks can carry extra fields of your own as well, defined the same way. Fields on quotes, invoices and members are not available yet.
