# Connect an AI assistant (MCP)

> Let an assistant that supports MCP read your workspace and propose changes you approve.

The MCP server is at `/mcp`. An assistant that supports MCP connects to it with an API key and can read your projects, time and invoices, and propose changes.

## Connect

1. Create a key under **Settings → API & Agents**, see [API keys](/help/integrations/api-keys/). Give it **write access** only if the assistant should create or change records.
2. In **MCP server** on the same page, copy the connection command. For Claude Code it looks like this:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http workelligence https://app.workelligence.com/mcp --header "X-Api-Key: ago_…"
```

3. In your assistant, ask it what it can see. It discovers your record types and tools on its own.

## What the assistant can do

- **Read**: contacts, projects, tasks, time entries, invoices, reports and documents.
- **Write**, with write access: create and change contacts, tasks, deals and time entries, draft quotes and invoices, draft a project bill, record payments, generate documents.

What it can never do: finalize an invoice. That stays a person's click.

## Approval mode

Under **Settings → AI**, tick **Require human approval for agent writes**. From then on, a write from an assistant is not executed. It becomes a proposal under **Review**, listed with every detail and in My Work. A member clicks **Approve & execute** or **Reject**. A key cannot approve its own proposals.

:::note[Availability]
Tools that call an AI model themselves, such as summarising, need an AI key on the workspace and may be unavailable. Reading and writing records works without one.
