# Rate cards

> Where hourly rates come from, and how to set them per service, person or project.

A rate card lists your services with their hourly rates. When time is billed, each entry is valued at the first rate that applies.

## Create a rate card

1. Open **Settings → Rate cards** and click **New rate card**.
2. Name it, for example "Standard 2026", and **Add service** for each service with its rate.
3. Save, and assign the rate card to projects or clients.

## Which rate applies

| Order | Source | Where it is set |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | **Captured rate** | The rate stored on the time entry when it was logged |
| 2 | **Service rate** | The rate card's rate for the entry's service |
| 3 | **Person rate** | The member's **Hourly rate** under Settings → Members |
| 4 | **Project rate** | The rate on the project |

The Bill project wizard shows which source each line used, and **Mixed rates** where lines differ.

## Catalogue

**Settings → Catalogue** holds the services and products you add to quotes and invoices with **Add from catalogue…**, with their default prices and VAT rates.
